This small country hotel has the charm and elegance to make your stay both
pleasant and memorable
THE EN-SUITE BEDROOMS
The 3 bedrooms are large (5.5 x 6m) with separate entrances and view of the
garden. Large sitting areas and air-conditioning together with shaded/ sunny
outside patios ensure the best possible relaxation. The beautifully furnished
rooms have all the amenities that you would expect from a 5 star establishment.
Teas, coffees, shortbread, beer, port, muscadel and soft drinks are supplied
free of charge.
THE GARDEN
The garden is a delight with well-kept lawns. There are 600 rose bushes and
three large beds of dahlias. Last year 14 000 roses were cut for the guest
rooms. There are sheltered sitting areas where one can relax and watch and
listen to the birds – about 60+ plus different birds visit our garden from time
to time.
SWIMMING POOL
The pool is semi-enclosed and solar-heated, making it ideal for all-weather
conditions. It is a champagne pool more suited to general relaxation than
frantic exercising. It is a salt-water pool and well filtered – always clean
with sparkling water.
LOCATION
The Hideaway is situated in the Historic Heart of Swellendam. It
is in an especially quiet and safe side street, from which all heavy traffic
is barred.
PARKING
There is secure off-street parking. Items left in the vehicle are quite safe.
All cars are washed each morning and Adin will act as Chauffeur in his vehicle
to and from restaurants in inclement weather, or should the guests not wish to
walk. So, enjoying the local wines is no problem.
RESTAURANTS AND PRE-DINNER WINE
Guests are invited to join Mark and Diana for a couple of complimentary
glasses of wine from 6.3o to approx. 7.30 p.m.
There are five excellent and very different restaurants which we recommend
within easy walking distance (5 to 10 minutes maximum walk). The selection of
food served is large and varied, from traditional to haute cuisine.
ON ARRIVAL
You are met by Mark or Diana and shown to your room. Assistance
is provided with luggage. Over a cup of tea or coffee or other refreshment
the delights of the area are explained to you. The choice of restaurants
is discussed, and a booking made on your behalf. Tours are also
arranged, and anything else you may require.
BREAKFASTS
Diana’s breakfasts are legendary and have been described as “the best
in South Africa, bar none”. Choose from a selection of at least
38 jams and marmalades and Honeys, 4 different freshly baked breads, muffins,
scones and croissants, all home-baked, or Diana’s muesli and homemade
fruit juices without additives or preservatives. Her cooked breakfasts
to order range from eggs as you like them, through bacon, sausages, forest
mushrooms, tomato, baked beans, etc. etc. In addition the cold meat
platter and cheese platter are extensive. The smoked salmon is excellent.
DOGGY BAGS
Each guest is supplied with a “doggy bag” so that he or she can take something
tasty from the breakfast buffet for lunch or morning tea.
BONTEBOK NATIONAL PARK
The Bontebok National Park and Game Reserve is only 6 km from the town.
Former Hideaway owner and much-loved local Adin Greaves knows the park
very well, having photographed a book on the park, and is happy to give
guests directions as to where to find the animals, birds and flowers.
On request Adin will take guests on a 2 ˝ hour tour in his own vehicle
at a very reasonable rate.

HISTORICAL
BUILDINGS AND MUSEUMS
The Hideaway is situated in the Historic Heart of the town. Victorian and
Dutch-style buildings and the Museums are excellently preserved and within easy
walking distance.
VALUE FOR MONEY
Our tariff is lower by far than at any other 5 Star establishment in South
Africa.
